Adin was one of the Jewish exiles who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel after the Babylonian captivity, as recorded in the lists of returnees in Ezra and Nehemiah.
Adin was the ancestral head of a family group that returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel after the Babylonian exile—454 individuals according to Ezra 2:15, or 655 according to the variant count in Nehemiah 7:20. His descendants also appear among those who sealed the covenant of faithfulness under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:16). The family of Adin represents one of the larger clans whose participation in the return and in Nehemiah's reforms was carefully documented, reflecting the importance of genealogical continuity for the restored community of Judah.
