Ahuzzath was a friend and advisor of Abimelech, the Philistine king of Gerar, who accompanied him when making a treaty with Isaac.
Ahuzzath was the personal advisor (literally 'friend') of Abimelech, the Philistine king of Gerar, who accompanied him and his general Phicol when they came to make a covenant with Isaac at Beersheba (Genesis 26:26). The role of 'king's friend' in the ancient Near East was an important court position—a trusted confidant and counselor who had privileged access to the monarch. Ahuzzath's presence at the covenant ceremony indicates that the treaty between Abimelech and Isaac was a significant diplomatic event requiring witnesses and formal representation from the Philistine court.
