Old Testament

Anaiah was a priest who signed the covenant of faithfulness to God during Nehemiah's time.

Anaiah was a priest who stood at Ezra's right side during the great public reading of the Torah at the Water Gate, when Ezra read the Law before the assembled community in Jerusalem (Nehemiah 8:4). This ceremony, one of the most significant religious events of the restoration period, lasted from dawn until midday and was accompanied by the Levites' explanation of the text to the people. Anaiah was also among those who sealed the covenant of faithfulness under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:22). His dual role as a participant in the Torah reading and a signatory of the covenant marks him as a leader of the restored priestly community.
