Jarib was a priest, a son of Jeshua, who had married a foreign woman during the restoration period and was listed among those who agreed to dissolve these marriages under Ezra's directive (Ezra 10:18). The priests are listed first in Ezra's register, reflecting the particular gravity of the situation when even members of the priestly families had intermarried. The willingness of Jarib and his priestly colleagues to comply with the reform was important for the credibility of the entire communal process.
