Phlegon, a Christian in Rome to whom Paul sent greetings in his letter to the Romans.

Phlegon was a Christian in Rome included in Paul's list of greetings at the end of his letter to the Romans (Romans 16:14), grouped with Asyncritus, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and 'the brothers who are with them.' His Greek name, meaning 'burning' or 'ardent,' was common in the Roman world. He is sometimes associated with a Greek historian named Phlegon of Tralles who wrote under Hadrian, but this identification has no scholarly support. He appears only in this greeting.
