The beloved's arrival at the consummated garden — 'I came to my garden, my sister, my bride; I gathered my myrrh with my spice, I ate my honeycomb with my honey, I drank my wine with my milk' — is the Song's fullest expression of covenantal intimacy fulfilled in mutual delight. The garden (gan) recalls Eden and the enclosed garden of 4:12-16, presenting the consummation of love as paradise restored rather than transgression as in Genesis 3. The double invitation that closes the verse — 'eat, friends, drink, and be drunk with love' — opens the private intimacy to a community of witnesses, consistent with the Song's tension between privacy and celebration. Allegorical readings (Jewish: God and Israel; Christian: Christ and the church) extend the marriage imagery into the domain of divine-human covenant without necessarily exhausting the verse's literal erotic register.
