The third Servant Song opens with the Servant describing his formation as a disciple: 'the Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary.' The 'tongue of the learned' (leshon limmudim, literally 'tongue of disciples') establishes the Servant as paradigmatically a receiver before a speaker — formed daily by divine instruction ('morning by morning he wakeneth mine ear') before being sent to comfort others.
