Study Note

Paul's triumphant declaration — 'no, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us' — inserts the word 'loved' (agapesantos) as the mechanism of conquest, making love rather than power the decisive force in eschatological victory. The term 'more than conquerors' (hypernikomen — super-conquerors, overwhelmingly victorious) is a Pauline intensification: not merely surviving the trials listed in verse 35 but being transformed by them into a position of more-than-victory. The phrase 'through him who loved us' maintains the Christological orientation of the entire chapter: the victory is not human achievement but the fruit of a relationship with the one whose love is proved by the cross (verse 32). The verse anticipates the doxological climax of verses 38-39, where neither death, angels, rulers, nor any created thing can separate believers from this love.
