Promised Land

11 ayat

The land of Canaan that God promised to Abraham and his descendants as an eternal possession. Genesis 12:7 records the first promise: 'To your offspring I will give this land.' The promise was repeated to Isaac (Genesis 26:3), Jacob (Genesis 28:13), and the entire nation (Exodus 3:8). After forty years in the wilderness, Joshua led Israel across the Jordan to take possession (Joshua 1-12). The land flowing 'with milk and honey' (Exodus 3:8) symbolized God's abundant provision. Yet possession was conditional on covenant faithfulness (Deuteronomy 28). Hebrews 11:16 reinterprets the promise — the patriarchs longed for 'a better country, a heavenly one,' pointing to the new creation (Revelation 21).
