Revenge
The desire to inflict harm in retaliation, which Scripture reserves for God alone. Romans 12:19 declares, 'Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.' Jesus taught radical nonretaliation: 'If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also' (Matthew 5:39). Proverbs 20:22 counsels, 'Do not say, "I'll pay you back for this wrong!" Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.' Leviticus 19:18 commands, 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge... but love your neighbor as yourself.' Forgiveness, not vengeance, marks God's people.
