'Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.' The 'man of lawlessness' (verse 3) arrives with a counterfeit Parousia — matching the genuine coming of Christ (verse 8) with a Satanic imitation complete with 'power, signs, and wonders.' The warning anticipates Jesus's caution in Matthew 24:24 that 'false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew great signs and wonders.' The passage cautions that miraculous signs do not, of themselves, authenticate a message or messenger — the content and moral fruit must be tested against the truth (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 John 4:1).
