New Testament

Archippus, addressed as a fellow soldier by Paul, was urged to complete the ministry he had received in the Lord.

Archippus is addressed by Paul as 'our fellow soldier' in Philemon 1:2 and is also mentioned in Colossians 4:17, where Paul urges him: 'See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.' The military metaphor 'fellow soldier'—also applied to Epaphroditus (Philippians 2:25)—suggests Archippus was actively engaged in the spiritual warfare of gospel ministry. Many interpreters identify him as the son of Philemon and Apphia, serving as a leader in the Colossian or Laodicean church. The exhortation to complete his ministry may indicate a specific task or role he had been commissioned to perform.
