ホフラ
Hophra, also known as Pharaoh Apries, was the king of Egypt during the time of the prophet Jeremiah and the Babylonian invasion of Judah.
Hophra, known in Egyptian records as Pharaoh Apries (589–570 BCE), was the king of Egypt during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. He led a military expedition that temporarily relieved the siege, but Nebuchadnezzar withdrew only briefly before returning to complete the destruction of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 37:5–11). Jeremiah prophesied that God would give Hophra into the hand of his enemies just as Zedekiah had been given into the hand of Babylon (Jeremiah 44:30), a prophecy fulfilled when Hophra was later overthrown and killed by the usurper Ahmose II (Amasis). His story illustrates the limits of Egyptian power as a counterweight to Babylonian expansion in the late seventh century BCE.
