Old Testament

The Perizzites, a Canaanite people group that inhabited the land of Canaan before the Israelite conquest.

The Perizzites were one of the Canaanite people groups inhabiting the land before the Israelite conquest, listed repeatedly in the standard catalogue of nations Israel was commanded to dispossess (Genesis 13:7; Exodus 3:8, 17; Joshua 3:10; Judges 3:5). Their geographic location appears to have been in the hill country of Canaan, distinct from the urban Canaanites of the lowlands. They persisted as a recognizable group into Solomon's reign, when he imposed forced labor on their remnant (1 Kings 9:20–21).
