John 12:26
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

'If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him' — set immediately after Jesus's grain-of-wheat saying (12:24–25), the verse makes discipleship structurally equivalent to Christ's own death-and-life pattern: service means following into death and into glory. The promise 'where I am, there will my servant be' anticipates the Farewell Discourse's 'I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also' (John 14:3), establishing eschatological proximity to Christ as the content of discipleship's reward. The Father's honoring of those who serve Christ elevates discipleship from client relationship to the highest cosmic honor available — the Father's recognition. The verse is part of John's 'extended passion context' (12:20–36) where the request of Greeks to see Jesus triggers a reflection on the universal scope of his death's drawing power (verse 32).
