Study Note
The Song of Moses declares that 'a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains' — one of the most vivid descriptions of divine wrath in the Hebrew canon. The 'lowest sheol' (tachat sheol) and the burning of earth's foundations represent the totality of covenantal punishment: no domain is beyond the reach of divine anger when covenant is systematically violated. Hebrews 12:29's conclusion ('for our God is a consuming fire') draws on Deuteronomy 4:24's same fire-language, applying it to the new covenant context as a warning against spurning divine grace. The Song of Moses (Deuteronomy 32) is cited more than any other single OT text in Revelation, where its themes of divine witness, judgment, and vindication shape the apocalyptic narrative.
