Study Note

The vision of nations and kings drawn to Zion's rising light belongs to the eschatological glory chapters (Isaiah 60-62), which envision the reversal of exile and the ingathering of all peoples to a renewed Jerusalem. The light-darkness contrast echoes Isaiah 9:2 and establishes a theological pattern: the presence of YHWH with his people generates light that attracts the nations. John's Gospel opens with nearly identical imagery (John 1:4-9), identifying Jesus as the true light, and Revelation 21:24 quotes this verse verbatim in describing the New Jerusalem's eternal light. The Gentile mission of the New Testament is repeatedly grounded in this Isaianic vision of nations coming to the light of God's presence.
