Arza was the steward of King Elah's household in Tirzah (1Ki.16.9).
Arza was the steward (the one 'over the house') of King Elah of Israel at Tirzah, the northern kingdom's capital (1 Kings 16:9). Zimri, one of Elah's military commanders, conspired against the king and murdered him while Elah was drinking himself drunk at Arza's house. Zimri then seized the throne, though his reign lasted only seven days before being overthrown by Omri. The detail that Elah was killed at his steward's home while intoxicated contributes to the Deuteronomistic portrait of the northern kingdom's dynasty of Baasha as corrupt and doomed to judgment. Arza himself is known only from this episode.
