Old Testament

Bidkar, an officer of Jehu, witnessed the LORD's judgment against Ahab and his family.

Bidkar was a military officer under Jehu, king of Israel, who served as his personal aide-de-camp (2 Kings 9:25). After Jehu shot King Joram of Israel, he ordered Bidkar to take the body and throw it into the field of Naboth the Jezreelite, recalling the prophetic word of Elijah that judgment would come upon the house of Ahab on that very ground (1 Kings 21:19). Bidkar's execution of this order fulfilled the prophecy and underscored the theological meaning of Jehu's coup against the Omride dynasty.
