Old Testament

The Emim were a tall and numerous people who inhabited the region of Moab before the Moabites.

The Emim were a race of giant people who inhabited the region east of the Dead Sea before the time of Moses, first mentioned in Genesis 14:5 as opponents defeated by Chedorlaomer. Deuteronomy 2:10–11 identifies them as tall like the Anakim and as a people whom the Moabites called Emim, meaning 'the fearful ones.' They were among the pre-Israelite inhabitants of Canaan and Transjordan displaced as Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land.
