Old Testament

The Hachmonites, also known as the Tahchemonites, were a clan or family that produced some of David's mighty warriors.

The Hachmonites were a clan or family associated with Tahchemon, the ancestor of Josheb-basshebeth, the chief of David's three mightiest warriors (2 Samuel 23:8). The designation appears in variant forms—'Tachmonite,' 'Hachmonite,' 'Hachmoni'—in the parallel lists of 1 Chronicles 11:11 and 27:32. Whether representing a family, a place of origin, or an honorific title, the Hachmonites are associated with David's innermost circle of military excellence during the consolidation of the Davidic monarchy.
