Nergal-sar-ezer was a Babylonian official present at the capture of Jerusalem in 587 BC and probably became king Neriglissar.

Nergal-sar-ezer was a senior Babylonian official present at the capture of Jerusalem in 587 BC, listed among Nebuchadnezzar's commanders who sat in the middle gate of the fallen city (Jeremiah 39:3). He is widely identified with Neriglissar, who married a daughter of Nebuchadnezzar and reigned as king of Babylon from 560–556 BC, having assassinated Amel-Marduk (Evil-merodach). The title Rab-mag attached to his name in the Hebrew text likely designates a senior military or court rank in the Babylonian administration.
