New Testament

Phygelus, along with Hermogenes, was mentioned by Paul as having deserted him during his ministry in Asia.

Phygelus was among those in the province of Asia who turned away from Paul during what appears to have been his final imprisonment, mentioned alongside Hermogenes as an example of desertion contrasted with Onesiphorus's faithful loyalty (2 Timothy 1:15). The defection of Asian believers at the critical moment of Paul's imprisonment was a painful blow to the apostle and reflected the cost of associating with a condemned prisoner in the Roman judicial system. Phygelus appears only in this single reference.
