Old Testament

Shethar-bozenai, a Persian official who questioned the legitimacy of the Jews' efforts to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.

Shethar-bozenai was a Persian official who, together with Tattenai the governor, investigated the rebuilding of the Jerusalem temple and wrote to King Darius questioning the authority of the Jewish community to proceed with construction (Ezra 5:3–6; 6:6, 13). When Darius confirmed the decree of Cyrus authorizing the work, Shethar-bozenai and Tattenai complied and even assisted the builders.
