Psalm 145 — the only psalm in the canonical Psalter titled 'A Psalm of David' without further musical notation — is an acrostic (each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet) that provides a systematic portrait of divine character through praise. The opening declaration 'I will extol thee, my God, O King' addresses YHWH with the royal title 'King,' anticipating the psalm's central theme of divine kingship (vv. 11–13), and commits the psalmist to perpetual praise ('every day will I bless thee,' v. 2). The rabbinic tradition (b. Berakhot 4b) teaches that one who recites Psalm 145 three times daily is assured of a place in the world to come — evidence of the psalm's central liturgical role in Jewish prayer. The psalm concludes the Psalter's final hallelujah-sequence (Psalms 146–150) and has influenced the structure of both Jewish Amidah and Christian praise traditions.
