Psalms 146:5
Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

Study Note
'Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God' — the opening beatitude of Psalm 146 introduces the contrast between trust in 'princes' who perish (verse 3) and trust in the eternal Creator who 'executes justice for the oppressed' (verse 7). The specific epithet 'God of Jacob' grounds the beatitude in the covenant history of the patriarchs — the one who encountered Jacob at Bethel and Peniel is the trustworthy God of the psalm. Psalm 146 is the first of the five 'Hallelujah Psalms' (146–150) that conclude the Psalter, and its beatitude form echoes Psalm 1's opening, creating a wisdom inclusio around the entire collection. The catalogue of divine actions in verses 7–9 — feeding the hungry, freeing prisoners, opening eyes, caring for resident aliens — grounds theological trust in observable divine concern for the vulnerable.
