Hebrews 2:10
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Study Note
The remarkable claim that it was 'fitting' (prepon) for God to perfect 'the captain of our salvation' through suffering addresses the scandal of a crucified Messiah by locating the cross within divine pedagogical purpose. The title 'archēgos' (captain, pioneer, originator) appears also in Acts 3:15 and 5:31, connoting a trailblazer who creates a path others follow — in this case, the path through suffering to glory. The phrase 'bringing many sons to glory' links Christ's own glorification inseparably to the glorification of those he represents, grounding solidarity between the Son and believers in shared creaturely experience. This verse is a foundation stone for patristic atonement theology, particularly Athanasius's dictum that 'what is not assumed is not healed.'
