Coming of Age

The transition from childhood to adulthood, marked by increased responsibility and spiritual maturity. The only glimpse of Jesus' childhood shows him at age twelve in the temple, 'sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions' (Luke 2:46). Samuel began serving in the tabernacle as a child and heard God's voice (1 Samuel 3). Josiah became king at age eight and began seeking God at sixteen (2 Chronicles 34:1-3). Paul describes spiritual maturation: 'When I was a child, I talked like a child... When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me' (1 Corinthians 13:11). Hebrews 5:14 calls believers to mature from spiritual milk to solid food.
