Discernment
The ability to distinguish between truth and error, good and evil, the Spirit of God and other spirits. First Corinthians 12:10 lists 'distinguishing between spirits' as a spiritual gift. First John 4:1 commands, 'Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.' Hebrews 5:14 describes the mature as those 'who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.' Solomon's prayer for discernment pleased God greatly (1 Kings 3:9-12). Philippians 1:9-10 prays that love 'may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best.'
