Amok was a priest who returned from the Babylonian exile and signed the covenant under Nehemiah.
Amok was a priest who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity with Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest, one of the original priestly families to participate in the restoration (Nehemiah 12:7). His family line continued in the priesthood; his descendant Eber is listed among the priestly leaders in the time of the high priest Joiakim (Nehemiah 12:20). Amok also appears among those who sealed the covenant of faithfulness under Nehemiah. His name, which may mean 'deep' or 'inscrutable,' is unique in the Old Testament and appears only in these post-exilic records.
