Old Testament

Bigvai was an ancestor of over 2,000 individuals who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity.

Bigvai was the ancestor of a prominent family in the post-exilic community, with 2,056 members returning from Babylon under Zerubbabel according to Ezra 2:14 (2,067 in Nehemiah 7:19). A further 72 men of this family returned with Ezra in the second wave (Ezra 8:14). Bigvai himself sealed the covenant in Nehemiah's time (Nehemiah 10:16). His large family made them one of the most numerically significant lay clans in the returning exilic community.
