Eshcol was an Amorite, an ally of Abram, and the valley of Eshcol was named after him.
Eshcol was an Amorite chieftain from Hebron, brother of Mamre and Aner, who entered into a military alliance with Abraham against the four kings of Chedorlaomer (Genesis 14:13, 24). He joined Abraham in the daring night raid that rescued Lot and the other captives from Sodom, and Abraham ensured that Eshcol and his allies received their share of the recovered plunder. The valley of Eshcol, named after him, was later identified by the Israelite spies as the place where they cut the famous cluster of grapes (Numbers 13:23–24).
