Old Testament

Pelonite or Paltite, a designation for two of David's mighty warriors, Helez and Ahijah.

The Pelonites, also written Paltites, were the designation applied to two of David's mighty men: Helez the Pelonite (1 Chronicles 11:27; 27:10) and Ahijah the Pelonite (1 Chronicles 11:36), corresponding to Helez the Paltite in 2 Samuel 23:26. The geographic referent is uncertain; some scholars identify Pelon with a location in Ephraim or Judah. Helez commanded the seventh monthly division of David's standing army, indicating significant military standing.
