Teresh was one of two royal eunuchs who guarded the doorway and plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus of Persia (Esther 2:21–23; 6:2). His fellow conspirator Bigthan shared the plot, but their scheme was uncovered by Mordecai, who reported it to Queen Esther. Both men were hanged, and the incident was recorded in the royal chronicles — a record that later played a pivotal role when the king rewarded Mordecai on the night before Haman's scheme against the Jews was to be executed.
