Old Testament

Zabbai, of the sons of Bebai, was an Israelite who had married a foreign wife during the Exile.

Zabbai was one of the descendants of Bebai who had taken a foreign wife and agreed to put her away under Ezra's covenant renewal program (Ezra 10:28). A second Zabbai (or possibly the same individual) appears in Nehemiah 3:20 as the father of Baruch, who zealously repaired a section of the Jerusalem wall from the angle to the door of the house of the high priest Eliashib. Zabbai is known only from these post-exilic contexts.
