Плач

A formal expression of grief, complaint, or protest directed to God — a major genre in the psalms and prophets. Nearly one-third of the psalms are laments (e.g., Psalms 13, 22, 42, 88). Laments typically include address to God, complaint, confession of trust, petition, and vow of praise. The entire book of Lamentations is a sustained lament over Jerusalem's destruction. Jesus lamented over Jerusalem (Matthew 23:37-38) and quoted Psalm 22's lament on the cross (Matthew 27:46). Lament is not faithlessness but faith's honest cry — bringing raw pain to the God who can heal. Habakkuk's lament (1:2-4) models questioning God while ultimately trusting him (3:17-19).
