The faithful minority preserved by God when the majority falls away. After Elijah despaired that he alone remained faithful, God revealed, 'I reserve seven thousand in Israel — all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal' (1 Kings 19:18). Isaiah named his son Shear-Jashub ('a remnant shall return'), embodying the doctrine (Isaiah 7:3). Through judgment and exile, God preserved a remnant to restore the nation (Ezra 9:8, Isaiah 10:20-22). Paul applies this concept to Jewish believers in his own day: 'At the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace' (Romans 11:5). The remnant theme affirms God's unwavering faithfulness.
