Волхвы

The Magi who traveled from the East to worship the newborn Jesus, guided by a star (Matthew 2:1-12). Tradition numbers them as three based on their three gifts — gold, frankincense, and myrrh — though Scripture doesn't specify a number. Each gift carries symbolic meaning: gold for royalty, frankincense for deity, myrrh for suffering and death. The Magi represent Gentile recognition of Israel's Messiah, fulfilling prophecies like Isaiah 60:3 about nations coming to God's light. Warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed home by another route, unwittingly protecting the infant Jesus from immediate danger.
