Study Note

The climactic vision of Daniel 7 promises that 'the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High.' This remarkable transfer of dominion — from beast-empires to the people of God — constitutes one of the Hebrew Bible's clearest statements about the final shape of history. The 'one like a son of man' (7:13-14) who receives the kingdom and subsequently gives it to the saints creates a complex relationship between individual messianic figure and corporate people of God. Jesus' use of 'Son of Man' as his primary self-designation in the Gospels aligns him with this Danielic figure, and Revelation 20:4-6 presents the saints' reign as its eschatological fulfillment.
