Etam was a town in the territory of Judah near Ain, first mentioned in 1 Chronicles 4:3 in connection with the descendants of Hur son of Caleb. The name appears in the genealogical record as a place associated with Judah's early clan settlements, and the same location appears in Judges 15:8 as the rock of Etam where Samson took refuge after striking the Philistines.
