Key
A symbol of authority and access in Scripture. Jesus told Peter, 'I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven' (Matthew 16:19). Revelation 1:18 records Jesus declaring, 'I hold the keys of death and Hades.' Revelation 3:7 describes Christ holding 'the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.' Isaiah 22:22 originally prophesied this key being placed on Eliakim's shoulder. Luke 11:52 records Jesus' rebuke: 'You have taken away the key to knowledge.' Keys represent the authority to grant or deny access — ultimately wielded by Christ alone.
