Regeneration

The supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in giving new spiritual life to those who were dead in sin. Jesus told Nicodemus, 'No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again' (John 3:3). Titus 3:5 describes salvation through 'the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.' Ezekiel 36:26-27 prophesied, 'I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.' Second Corinthians 5:17 celebrates, 'If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.' First Peter 1:3 praises God who 'has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.' Regeneration is God's initiative — a sovereign, effectual work that transforms the human heart.
