Sermon on the Mount

Jesus' most extended block of teaching (Matthew 5-7), delivered on a mountainside in Galilee. It begins with the Beatitudes (5:3-12), redefining blessedness. Jesus intensifies the law — addressing anger (5:21-26), lust (5:27-30), oaths (5:33-37), and revenge (5:38-42). He teaches the Lord's Prayer (6:9-13), warns against worry (6:25-34), condemns judgmentalism (7:1-5), and concludes with the parable of wise and foolish builders (7:24-27). The crowd was 'amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority' (7:28-29). The Sermon on the Mount is the charter of the kingdom of God — radical, demanding, and life-transforming.
