Curse
The invocation of divine judgment or the consequences of sin and disobedience. After the fall, God cursed the serpent and the ground (Genesis 3:14-19). Deuteronomy 28 contrasts blessings for obedience with curses for disobedience. Galatians 3:13 declares, 'Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.' The cross absorbed the curse (Deuteronomy 21:23). Revelation 22:3 promises that in the new creation 'no longer will there be any curse.' Jesus taught, 'Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you' (Luke 6:28). Believers are called to return blessing for cursing (Romans 12:14).
