Free Will
The capacity of human beings to make genuine choices, particularly regarding faith and obedience to God. Deuteronomy 30:19 presents a clear choice: 'I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life.' Joshua 24:15 echoes this with 'choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.' While the Bible affirms human responsibility and moral agency, it also acknowledges the effects of sin on the will (Romans 7:15-20) and the necessity of divine grace to enable faith (John 6:44). The tension between divine sovereignty and human freedom has produced rich theological reflection across centuries of Christian thought.
