Paradise

3 verses

A term used for the abode of the righteous dead and the blessedness of the redeemed. Jesus promised the penitent thief, 'Today you will be with me in paradise' (Luke 23:43). Paul was 'caught up to paradise' and heard 'inexpressible things' (2 Corinthians 12:4). Revelation 2:7 promises, 'To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.' The word derives from Persian for a walled garden, echoing Eden. Paradise represents the blessed state of being in God's presence — both in the intermediate state after death and in the ultimate new creation where the tree of life bears fruit once more.
