The image of casting sins into the depths of the sea is unique in the Hebrew Bible for its spatial radicality: sins are not merely forgiven but cosmologically displaced, placed beyond retrieval. The verse echoes Exodus 15 where God cast Pharaoh's army into the sea — enemies overcome by the waters — here applying the same fate to Israel's iniquities.
