Heresy
A belief or teaching that deviates from established orthodox Christian doctrine. Paul warned Timothy about those who 'will not put up with sound doctrine' (2 Timothy 4:3) and instructed Titus to 'reject a divisive person after a first and second warning' (Titus 3:10). Second Peter 2:1 warns of 'false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies.' Early heresies included Gnosticism (denying Christ's humanity), Arianism (denying Christ's deity), and Pelagianism (denying original sin). The church responded by articulating creeds and confessions that defined the boundaries of orthodox faith based on apostolic teaching.
