Oracle

20 ayet

A divine utterance or prophetic message delivered through a human spokesperson. The Hebrew massa ('burden, oracle') introduces many prophetic pronouncements (Isaiah 13:1, Nahum 1:1, Habakkuk 1:1). Oracles could be messages of judgment ('the oracle concerning Babylon,' Isaiah 13:1) or salvation ('I will hear what God the Lord speaks, for he speaks peace to his people,' Psalm 85:8). The early church valued prophetic oracles (1 Corinthians 14:1-5). Peter described Scripture itself as 'the very words (oracles) of God' (Romans 3:2, 1 Peter 4:11). True oracles are distinguished from false ones by their alignment with God's revealed character and prior revelation (Deuteronomy 18:21-22).
