Study Note
The portrait of the 'king who shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods' is the most developed Old Testament template for the figure of the self-deifying tyrant, realised historically in Antiochus Epiphanes (175-164 BC). The language closely parallels 2 Thessalonians 2:4 ('who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God'), making this Daniel text the primary source for the New Testament's 'man of lawlessness' concept. The qualifying clause 'till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done' grounds even this extreme blasphemy within a divinely bounded time-frame — the self-deifier operates within divine permission, not outside divine control. Revelation 13:5-6's beast 'speaking great blasphemies' draws on this same Daniel 11 imagery, creating a canonical type of end-time antichrist that bridges both testaments.

`And the king hath done according to his will, and exalteth himself, and magnifieth himself against every god, and against the God of gods he speaketh wonderful things, and hath prospered till the indignation hath been completed, for that which is determined hath been done.
And the king will do his pleasure; he will put himself on high, lifting himself over every god, and saying things to be wondered at against the God of gods; and all will be well for him till the wrath is complete; for what has been purposed will be done.
